Doodles for Design

Exploring motif development has provided me with an opportunity to doodle and doodle and doodle some more.  Doodling is something I do whilst listening to lectures and in meetings, it helps me to actively listen.  I suppose that sounds a bit counterintuitive, but it does work for me.  I don't actively think when I am doodling; I let the lines guide the next mark that I make.  A lot of my work is created in that mindless manner, I find working with a basic idea and following the lead of my materials is when I am the most creative.  What I will do with the following doodle pages is yet to be determined, watch this space.

A little bit of doodling.

A bit of play with acrylic paint and black permanent marker.   I painted the background first and then the tree in white acrylic.   I then used an Artline permanent marker to create the doodles on the tree.   I only need to apply a varnish and it is done.    The size is 6 x 8 inches.

On the design wall...

I am currently working on a kit from Addicted to Fabric (http://www.a2f.com.au/) named Carnival.  It is a hexagon block created using a 60 degree ruler.   I have about 1/2 of the triangle blocks ready.  I am not sure what the final layout will be, I will have to wait until I have all the blocks ready.  So far I really like how it is coming together and I am enjoying the process.

Rainbow Snake Creates

This is a work in progress and my entry into the Braidwood Quilt Shop challenge "Rainbow Snake". I chose to go with the aboriginal story of the rainbow snake,  who creates the land.   As this is the Year of the Snake in the Chinese zodiac I could have also pulled on that for inspiration.

New flower pincushion

I decided to make Myself a new pincushion.  It is a biscornu made of wool felt with an appliquéd flower and a button center.  I am very happy with how it turned out, especially as I did not use a pattern.

My little entries into the show.

Love Crosses a miniature red and white quilt.

Finally finished one of my small red and white quilts.  This is now ready to go into the Queanbeyan Show this weekend.
